Every status effect in Mortal Shell 2, and who deals in it
All 24 statuses the sources record, in three piles: the ones that hurt, the ones you build on, and the ones that cut both ways. What each does is written from reading both wikis; everything under it — the 27 Tarstones that carry one, the kit that grants one, the cure items — is computed from our own catalog, so the lists move when the data does.
How statuses work here
Nearly every status in the game is a stack counter, not a switch: Frost does nothing until enough Frost lands, Bloodcurse detonates at a threshold, Curse turns an enemy’s strike back at the moment the pile is tall enough. That makes application speed the stat that matters — a fast weapon carrying an infusion reaches a threshold sooner than a heavy one, whatever the per-hit numbers say.
Cures follow one pattern. Where a status has a counter-item at all, the item both cures it and grants mitigation for a while — 6 of the 24 statuses have one on record, and each is listed under its status below. The pattern is worth internalising: if something is stacking a status on you, the answer is in your item wheel, not in your dodge.
The afflictions17
Statuses that punish whoever carries them. Most travel in both directions: what a stone puts on an enemy, some enemy somewhere can put on you.
Bloodcurse
Builds in stacks, and at the threshold it detonates for heavy damage in one hit. The infusions that carry it are betting the whole ladder on reaching that detonation.
Stones that carry it: Arbiter's Prize, Viletongue Hedron
In a Shell’s kit: Gragu the Insatiable
Cure and resistance: Bloodseed
Burn
Damage over time, and the ticks add up faster than they look. The one element the prologue teaches you to fear before it teaches you to use it.
Stones that carry it: Emberseed Stone, Inflamed Clawstone
In a Shell’s kit: Lazlo the Justiciar, Smert the Apostate, Retribution
Cure and resistance: Burnt Effigy
Chaos
A fuse rather than an effect: when it runs out, a random condition lands. What that condition is decides how bad the trade was, and you do not get a say.
In a Shell’s kit: Smert the Apostate, Miracle
Cosmic Disease
Damage over time with a cut to your own damage output riding on it — the affliction the last stretch of the game is built around.
One account adds that it forces you out of your Shell and locks your skills and Tarstones until it is cleared, and names the Seedbearer's Scripture as the item that clears it.
Inflicted by: endgame enemyendgame
Curse
Stacks until the target is Cursed, and a Cursed enemy's next melee strike is nullified and turned back on it — a status that converts an incoming hit into a free one.
Stones that carry it: Accursed Stone, Curseblood Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Sariel the Endless, Exodus of Thorns
Execution
The afflicted take Break Damage from melee attacks, which shortens the road to a Riposte.
Named in the sources’ own status tables, mentioned by nothing in our catalog yet — no boss, stone, Shell or item on record deals in it. Recorded here so the list is complete, not because anything on this site can place it.
Fragile
The target takes bonus damage from Weapon attacks. Plain, stackable with everything, and the reason a debuff stone earns a socket at all.
Stones that carry it: Enfeebling Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Genessa the Wayward, Gragu the Insatiable, Tiel the Acolyte
Frost
Stacks toward a freeze: reach the threshold and the target is held in place for a while. Getting frozen yourself in a boss arena is usually the whole health bar.
Stones that carry it: Frostshard Stone, Warden's Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Smert the Apostate
Cure and resistance: Martyr's Ash
Havoc
The afflicted take Break Damage from ranged attacks — the sidearm's version of what Execution does for melee.
Named in the sources’ own status tables, mentioned by nothing in our catalog yet — no boss, stone, Shell or item on record deals in it. Recorded here so the list is complete, not because anything on this site can place it.
Lightning
Damage over time, and repeated applications release a shockwave on top. One source's table spells it "Lighting"; every other page on both sites calls it Lightning.
Stones that carry it: Champion's Brooch, Voltaic Crown
In a Shell’s kit: Proxima the Broodseeker, Smert the Apostate, Biosampler
Cure and resistance: Galvanic Shard
Perforation
The target takes bonus damage from Sidearm attacks, which is what turns a ranged build's chip damage into a plan.
Stones that carry it: Infused Stone, Sapper's Stone, Wounding Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Sariel the Endless
Phantom
Banks up splash and stagger damage while it runs, and the whole account is paid out the moment it expires — a delayed detonation you can keep feeding.
Stones that carry it: Monarch's Vestige, Nightgrasp Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Genessa the Wayward
Poison
The long one: modest damage over time that outstays every other tick in the game.
Stones that carry it: Hag Stone, Serpent Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Smert the Apostate, Tiel the Acolyte
Cure and resistance: Tarspore
Stasis
Slows the target's time, and more stacks slow it further. On you it is a death sentence in any fight with follow-up hits; on an enemy it is the setup window every heavy weapon wants.
Inflicted by: endgame enemyendgame
Stones that carry it: Torpor Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Genessa the Wayward, Proxima the Broodseeker
Cure and resistance: Paradoxical Scripture, Winterglass Gem
Trauma
Break Damage over time — a Riposte you set up by waiting rather than by parrying.
Stones that carry it: Weeping Stone, Wretchcaller's Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Sariel the Endless
Vomit
Poison's uglier sibling: the damage over time comes with a stun attached.
Named in the sources’ own status tables, mentioned by nothing in our catalog yet — no boss, stone, Shell or item on record deals in it. Recorded here so the list is complete, not because anything on this site can place it.
Weak
The target deals less damage. Unglamorous, and on a boss it is worth more than most damage stones — every hit you were going to eat is smaller.
Stones that carry it: Magdalena's Memento, Tyrant's Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Genessa the Wayward, Gragu the Insatiable
The states you build on6
Statuses you want. None of these is cast on you by an enemy — every one comes out of your own kit, which is why they read like build currencies rather than hazards.
Faith
While it lasts, melee hits regenerate extra Resolve — income for the same bar every ability and infusion is spending from.
In a Shell’s kit: Smert the Apostate, Deadly Revelation
Infect
A retaliation state: whoever strikes the carrier is answered with Poison.
Named in the sources’ own status tables, mentioned by nothing in our catalog yet — no boss, stone, Shell or item on record deals in it. Recorded here so the list is complete, not because anything on this site can place it.
Leech
A stack per kill, Max Health up with every stack, and the whole pile gone when you die. The game's cleanest statement of how it feels about caution.
Stones that carry it: Parasitic Stone, Unwieldly Stone
Shadow
Undetectable while it lasts. The game has no stealth system apart from this state, which is exactly what makes the abilities that grant it read so strangely.
In a Shell’s kit: Tiel the Acolyte, Lingering Shadow, Shadow Dash
Slaughterer
The higher the stacks, the easier enemies are to execute — a snowball for a build that finishes fights up close.
In a Shell’s kit: Eredrim the Venerable, Executioner
Warp
Weapon attack speed climbs as the stacks do. The stones that grant it are effectively paying you in tempo.
Stones that carry it: Hexapod Core, Thief's Stone
In a Shell’s kit: Genessa the Wayward, Gragu the Insatiable, Lazlo the Justiciar
The double-edged ones1
Cost and payoff in the same state. Whether it helps depends on how you play it.
Pain
Converts health into grey health that a single hit can take away — but melee attacks earn it back. One Shell is built entirely on riding that edge.
In a Shell’s kit: Sariel the Endless, Exodus of Thorns, Purge
Where the record runs out
4 of the 24 statuses are names the sources table and nothing in our catalog mentions — no boss inflicts them, no stone grants them. That is reported on each one rather than smoothed over, and it is the same rule the rest of this wiki runs on: a blank is better than a guess. The boss side is the bigger gap — outside the very end of the game, neither source records what any fight inflicts, so the “inflicted by” lines above are short not because bosses are clean but because nobody has written the exposure down yet.
For the stones themselves, the Tarstone levels page carries every ladder in full, and the compatibility chart says which of your gear can socket the stone a status comes from.
