How Mortal Shell 2 ends
2 are on record, and which one you get is a decision rather than a fight — neither is gated behind a difficulty, and neither locks the other out of a later run. That much is safe to know. Everything past the notice below is not.
What is safe to read here
This paragraph and the one after it. 2 endings are documented; one of them is where the story has been heading since the prologue and the other is a secret attached to an optional character you can walk past for an entire playthrough. Getting either does not require a particular build, a particular Shell or a particular difficulty. Only one of the two community records we read gives a count at all, so treat 2 as the number anybody has written down rather than as a guarantee there is no third.
If what you came for was the number, you have it. The sections below name the character, the item, the room and the trophies, so stop here unless you actually want that. The rest of this wiki keeps the last hours of the game behind marked headings for exactly this reason — the boss list and the route both do it, and neither gives away what is below.
Full spoilers below. Everything from here on describes how Mortal Shell 2 finishes, including what the collecting has been for, who the second ending belongs to and what it asks of you. There is no way to write these without giving them away.
Ending 1: The one the whole game is pointed at
Everything you have been collecting is the ending. Our own mechanics record carries the first half of that in plain sight — an Ovum comes out of every cleansed beacon and Milos keeps them in Marrow Keep — and this is the half it stops short of: they are being recovered for the Undermether, and that errand is the reason for all of it. The finale is not a twist so much as a bill coming due.
It is triggered by you rather than by a boss. The room the Ova are kept in is where it happens, and the accounts we read agree that what the Harbinger does there is send them on and stay behind.
The detail worth knowing before you pull it is that you can wait. One account states the game lets you keep collecting first, and that the number you hand over is stated to affect how the journey goes. Our trophy list holds one for collecting all of them, which is the same advice written as a reward.

Ending 2: The one you get by not doing anything
One source Only one of the two wikis we read documents this at all.
There is a second ending and it has nothing to do with the Ova. It belongs to the figure holding court on the cliff at Desolate Peak, and reaching it means finishing his questline in the specific way he is asking for.
What he is asking for is nothing. Every account of it agrees on that and our own trophy record agrees by implication — the condition reads as a joke about having mastered nothing at all, which is not the sort of line a wiki invents.
The trap is the bottle our item catalog places on a crate opposite him. It is the obvious offering, and offering it is the failure state. If you have already taken it, the fuller account says to put it back before you go and talk to him again.

- You’ve mastered nothing and this is your reward. Pretty pointless, eh? Trophy page
Do you need two runs to see both?
Probably not, and nothing we hold settles it. What the accounts do agree on is the shape: one is triggered by you at a moment of your choosing, the other is a conversation somewhere else entirely, and only the first of those closes the run. Nobody has written down whether the game counts both in one pass, so the safe order is to finish the conversation first and leave the one that ends the story until last.
What a second run is genuinely for is elsewhere — bond levels, memories, and the sets a single pass cannot close. That case is made on the New Game Plus page, and the things you can lose along the way are on the missables list.
One caution about the second ending specifically: only one of the two community records we read documents it, and its own two pages describe the steps differently. Treat the route above as the fuller of the two accounts rather than as settled.
Written from our own catalog and from what the community has documented, checked against both of the major Mortal Shell 2 wikis. Where those two disagree, this page says so rather than picking one quietly.
