How to Unlock the Black Door on the Dreadnought

Advanced9 min readUpdated July 6, 2026

The black door on the Dreadnought takes a good amount of legwork. You have to survive your match, find a specific starting item, then work through a chain of doors and keys - and you can't finish it in a single match. It plays out over several games.

The first step is finding a green key. It's a rare item that kicks off a chain reaction, unlocking doors at fixed points of interest. Where those POIs appear changes between matches, but each one always has the same door, and you'll always be able to unlock the next.

Step 1 - Find the Green Key

Finding the green key comes down to luck. The best sources are Rare Valuable Safes in towns, or the occasional downed boat out in the wastes.

These look like small bank safes you can unlock. The rarer the safe, the better your odds - but it's entirely luck-based, so the key can drop at the start of a match or right at the end. Rare and Very Rare containers show up most often at landmarks and heavily guarded locations.

Step 2 - Work the Key Chain

With the green key in hand, follow the chain below. Each door yields the next key, and each key points you to the next landmark. Some locations may not appear in a given match - if one is missing, play out the match, extract, and come back another time.

  1. Green Key -> Kaiserplatz (find the Blue Key)Go to Kaiserplatz and head for the large church-like structure at the top of the town. On the ground floor there's a green door on the left. Use the green key; inside, the blue key sits on the central desk at the back.
  2. Blue Key -> MeereSauge (find the Red Key)Make for MeereSauge. The blue door isn't in the main city - it's off to the side, in a dock area on the southwest edge. Look for a two-story building at the base of a dock. The blue door is at the entrance; inside, the red key rests on a partially covered wooden chair.
  3. Red Key -> Segen (find the White Key)Head to Segen and find the bank building at the far back of the city - teller stalls on the right, stairs on the left. Climb all the way to the third floor. Use the red key on the red door there; the white key is on one of the desks inside.
  4. White Key -> Fort Istria (find the Black Key)The last landmark before the Dreadnought. Bring at least one timed bomb. Blow the locked front doors with a cannon, timed bomb, or grenade, then break the red door to the right of the entrance to reach the bottom. At the base of the ladder is the white door - use the white key, and inside is the black key.
  5. Black Key -> the Dreadnought (open the black door)The Dreadnought appears in the final phase as the last extraction point. Expect fights. Board the giant black ship, find the black door, and open it with the black key to reach a massive loot room. Grab everything you can before you extract - and watch for players trying to steal it.

Things to Remember

  • The doors are always in the same buildings, even though the POIs move between matches.
  • You almost certainly won't finish the whole chain in one run - extract with the current key and continue later.
  • Bring breaching tools (timed bombs, grenades) for Fort Istria's layered red doors.
  • The Dreadnought only spawns in the final circle, so plan your route to reach it before the sand takes the map.
