Withered KnightPolearm and ShieldOne-handed + shield
Vanguard Knight
Polearm and Shield is the only melee branch in the game with a talent for reviving. Intervene dashes to a targeted ally and shields them; Succor turns that into a Redemption Mark on a downed teammate; Sacred Bulwark puts a wall between the two of you while it happens. It is a support branch that happens to be holding a spear.
Skill bar4 of the branch’s skills
- IntervenePolearm and Shield
Dashes directly to a targeted ally and shields on arrival — the branch's core action.
- Sacred BulwarkPolearm and Shield
A barrier you stand behind, which is what makes a contested revive possible.
- Rainbow PiercerPolearm and Shield
The charge that grants Super Armor on hit — how you arrive without being stopped.
- Spear BarragePolearm and Shield
Held thrusts that also build the Charged Dash level, so pressure feeds mobility.
Talents that matter6 trees back this branch
Not a full tree — these are the points that change what the build does rather than adding a percentage to it. Fill the rest of the tree in whatever order your level allows.
- Polearm and Shield SpecializationWeapon Specialization
One extra equipped skill while holding Polearm and Shield — same rate as the Greatsword's, same reason to take it.
- SuccorIntervene Enhancement
Intervene marks a downed ally for redemption. Nothing else in the class does this.
- GuardianIntervene Enhancement
A wider Intervene shield radius, which is what turns a single save into a group one.
- UnbreakableSacred Bulwark Enhancement
Sacred Bulwark's barrier holds far longer — the difference between a revive that lands and one that does not.
- Rising MoraleCore Archetype
Polearm skills raise the shield's value on their key effect, so damage and defence are the same rotation.
Affixes to roll for
In priority order. Affix rolls are random, so treat this as what to keep rather than what to expect.
- BrotherhoodDefensive
Grants Defence to you and your allies while alive — an affix written for exactly this role.
- BulwarkDefensive
Block damage reduction, on the branch that blocks as a plan.
- Spirit ShieldDefensive
Shield strength, which is most of what this build actually outputs.
Polearm and Shield weaponshighest combat value
Pulled from the catalog by combat value, not picked by hand — a new polearm and shield shows up here on the next import.
How to play it
- Position for the ally, not the enemy. Intervene's range is the shape of your whole fight.
- Bulwark before the revive, not after it goes wrong. The barrier is a setup tool.
- Rainbow Piercer to arrive, Spear Barrage to stay. The charge is for entry, not for damage.
- Take the extra skill slot. Five skills is what makes the save-and-fight rotation fit on one bar.
Don’t take this if
You play solo. Intervene and Succor both need a teammate to point at, and without one you have spent your best talents on nothing.
