Javelin Blackarrow
Javelin exists to answer the thing the bow cannot: an enemy already on top of you. It throws at range, closes, and backsteps. Being honest about it: the class's talent trees are written almost entirely for arrows, so this branch leans on the class-wide trees rather than a dedicated one. That is a real constraint, not a flaw in the build — it is why the picks below are movement and pressure rather than damage multipliers.
Skill bar4 of the branch’s skills
- ThrowJavelin
The core, and like the bow the charge is free — the same free-charge economy applies here.
- Divine InfusionJavelin
The branch's only real damage state; everything else is positioning.
- Trickstep JavelinJavelin
Throws and backsteps in one input — the closest thing the branch has to a disengage.
- Stitch and ThreadJavelin
Soft-locks near the crosshair, which is what makes the javelin land at close range.
Talents that matter
Not a full tree — these are the points that change what the build does rather than adding a percentage to it. Fill the rest of the tree in whatever order your level allows.
- PursuerNimble Evade
Movement speed after any hit, which this branch converts directly into position.
- Tactical AdjustmentsSwift Shot
Movement while shooting — the branch is played in motion, not planted.
- Crippling PainBomb Engineering
Impact Grenade slows, and the grenades are shared across both branches.
- Steady StealthPredator's Stealth
Stealth that survives a hit, so a reset is actually a reset.
- Lasting PainBattle Hardened
Longer debuff duration on anything you have already hit — it stretches every setup you land.
Affixes to roll for
In priority order. Affix rolls are random, so treat this as what to keep rather than what to expect.
- PowerfulOffensive
Flat physical damage, since no branch-specific multiplier exists to build around.
- SeekerOffensive
Movement speed on hit, which compounds with the two movement talents above.
- ElusiveUtility
Cheaper dodges, on the branch that dodges to create its own openings.
Javelin weaponshighest combat value
Pulled from the catalog by combat value, not picked by hand — a new javelin shows up here on the next import.
How to play it
- Throw at range first. The javelin is not a melee weapon — it is a thrown one you can also swing.
- Use Trickstep to leave, not to fight. The backstep is the branch's identity.
- Grenades are your talent points' best return here — lead with the slow, then commit.
- If the bow branch is available and the fight is open, take the bow. This build is for the fights the bow loses.
Don’t take this if
You want the class's damage ceiling. The talent trees pay the bow and not the javelin, and no amount of play fixes a tree that does not exist.
